Services Provided and Eligibility Requirements

Services Provided:
1) Temporary Emergency Financial Assistance with Rent, Mortgage, Utility Payments. Food Vouchers. Prescriptions. Transportation to VA Medical Facilities.
2) Assistance in identifying eligibility and filing for Veteran Administration benefits.
Eligibility Requirements For Financial Assistance
1) Any honorably discharged veteran of the Regular Military Service (Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard) who served on Active Duty for more than 180 days beyond training. Or who served less than 180 days of Active Duty who was discharged because of a medical condition. It is not required that a veteran show service during any specific campaign or military action. Department of Defense Form DD-214 required.
Any honorably discharged member of a Reserve or Guard unit who was activated by the president and who served on Active Duty for 180 or more days beyond training. Department of Defense Form DD-214 required.
Includes any spouse or dependent of a veteran described above.
2) Proof / documented Lucas County Residency for a minimum of 90 days.
3) Maximum Gross Monthly Income of:
$1,750 per month Single Individual Household
$3,500 per month Multi-member Household
(total income of all household members)
4) Documentation of all Income and Assets as required by State of Ohio
Statute, including Bank Checking and Savings Account Statements, Tax Return Copies, Real Estate and Vehicles
5) Documentation of Emergency Need
Eviction Notice to access Rental Assistance
Foreclosure Notification to access Rental Assistance
Utility Shut-off Notice to access Utility Assistance
Verification of VA Appointment to access Transportation Assistance
Eligibility Requirements For Veteran Administration Claims Assistance
Any veteran can access the assistance of a Veterans Service Officers on staff at the Lucas County Veterans Service Commission. The veteran does not need to be a resident of Lucas County or of the State of Ohio. The assistance of a Veterans Service Officer is available to a veteran’s widow(er), and dependent children.
The Veterans Service Officer will initiate and monitor claims made to the Veterans Administration. The Service Officer can also assist veterans to obtain copies of Discharge Papers (DD-214) and other documents (e.g. Birth or Death Certificates, Marriage / Divorce Documents).
